Lessons Learned from the COVID19 Pandemic – Where Do We Go from Here?
What we have learned from this experience, predictions on COVID variants and how to better prepare for the next pandemic.
As vaccination rates approach 50% of the US population, and states are opening public spaces, what did we learn during this extraordinarily devastating experience with the COVID-19 virus? How will this experience help us better prepare and respond to future pandemics? Will the discovery of new COVID variants, such as the Delta variant, be as deadly as the original outbreak?
BioIQ President and COO Justin Bellante will discuss this topic with epidemiology expert Dr. Pia MacDonald, PhD, MPH, CPH, who has 25 years of experience in domestic and international epidemiological research and public health. Dr. MacDonald has an extensive background in infectious disease epidemiology and surveillance, global health security, public health preparedness, and outbreak investigation and response, and she has worked on many outbreak responses, including Ebola, Zika, and now COVID-19.
Dr. MacDonald serves as principal investigator and/or project director of large contracts and grants funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the areas of infectious diseases, surveillance, global health, and health security. In her current role, she leads projects focused on responding to emerging infectious diseases and strengthening countries’ capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to disease outbreaks, thereby enhancing compliance with the International Health Regulations.
