BioIQ Introduces Enhanced Solutions for Healthcare Quality

BioIQ Star Helps Health Plans Comply with HEDIS Initiatives and Close Gaps in Care

June 2, 2015 — BioIQ today offered more details about BioIQ Star, a healthcare technology platform that makes it easier for health plans to comply with Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) quality initiatives, improve STAR and QRS ratings, and close clinical gaps in care.

All accredited health plans and many Medicaid plans must submit HEDIS measure information as a requisite for their accreditation. Health plans offering Medicare Services are eligible for marketing concessions and bonus payments based on a subset of their HEDIS measures known as Star ratings. Higher quality translates into better member health. One dimension of this rating system involves tracking risk factors related to diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and other chronic health conditions. Health plans must identify members who have these conditions or who are at risk for contracting them, and also make sure that these members receive necessary treatments.

While the directives are clear, engaging millions of noncompliant members is an immense challenge. “Interoperability and automation are required to make these healthcare-reform measures feasible, scalable, and sustainable,” said Justin Bellante, chief executive officer at BioIQ. “HEDIS program administrators need technology to automate repetitive functions, manage the patient experience, as well as to exchange health data among physicians, labs, and other healthcare stakeholders.”

To meet these needs, BioIQ released BioIQ Star, a customizable technology platform that engages members, assesses health, manages lab-testing processes, connects patients with their personal physicians, and delivers results to all pertinent stakeholders. BioIQ Star supports prevailing EHR standards for gathering health data, managing that data to ensure it meets accepted formats, and transforming that data into secure electronic health records.

“As healthcare quality programs gain momentum, the need for complete data management, quality measurement, and results tracking has never been greater,” added Bellante. “Our charter is to help health plans measure and improve population health. We developed BioIQ Star to help them easily engage members, close gaps in care, and coordinate reporting amongst population services and stakeholders.”
