AHA “Heart Walk” Connects Local Citizens to Essential Health Metrics

The BioIQ Surf Club was formed not only to enjoy the steady swells that roll in off the Pacific Ocean, but also to spread the word to Santa Barbara citizens about the importance of tracking their vital health metrics. On September 27, members of the Surf Club will be sponsoring a Heart Walk in conjunction with the American Heart Association (AHA).

The Santa Barbara Heart Walk celebrates those who have made lifestyle changes and encourages people to take the pledge to live healthier lifestyles. It also raises money to fund life-saving research and initiatives in the Santa Barbara community. As the philanthropic arm of BioIQ, the Surf Club encourages local business owners to join the event and stop by BioIQ’s booth to learn about health and wellness solutions for their organizations. They will be talking about wellness solutions that prevent chronic health conditions such as diabetes, cancer, hypertension, and heart disease.

BioIQ’s charter echoes the overall goal of the AHA event: to increase the number of people who understand the link between their health and their risk of heart disease and stroke. It’s also an important component of the American Heart Association’s overarching goal: to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent and to reduce deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke by 20 percent by the year 2020.
